And Then The Field Study Came To An End...

Bratislava is definitely not the most exciting place on earth. In fact, there isn’t much to do there at all. We got off the bus and headed to a castle that was under construction and not much to look at compared to the others we had seen on this trip. We walked down a hill and headed through the heart of old town Bratislava, which was actually quite similar to Prague. We had a few minutes of free time, so I decided to grab a traditional Slovakian treat. It was a super thin waffle sliced in half and filled with caramel. It was so tasty! As our free time concluded we set out on a walk to a restaurant a little ways away from the town square for lunch. Along the way we were tricked into thinking we were having McDonald’s; luckily it was only a trick. After lunch we boarded the bus yet again, and headed through green rolling hills on our way to an ancient castle. Not much was left of the castle, but it was probably my favorite site of the trip. I really enjoy looking at old ruins. We hiked up the hill to look a little more closely and to enjoy the awesome view. From one point on the hill you can see Austria, Hungary, and Slovakia all at the same time; that was really cool. When we reached the bottom of the hill our bus driver had set up a slack rope for us to try. Basically it is a tight rope between two trees and generally extremely difficult to walk across. I had tried one before at the rock climbing gym at home, so I knew some of the tricks to getting across. I made it about half way.

Once we were back on the bus, Kendyll and I decided to take full advantage of the fact that the seats turned into beds. I slept most of the way home, until the bus started breaking down anyway. A faulty radiator is never a good thing. Especially when the four adults who are supposed to be providing some sort of supervision, who try fixing it with a plastic bag and duct tape, seem to have no clue what they are doing. Luckily we made it home safe and sound. By the time our bus reached Křižíkova I couldn’t get off quick enough. It was the best feeling in the world to be on the metro and headed to a comfy bed and warm shower.
